Southwest California
Business Community Champions Legislative Successes

Working together in 2008, the Temecula Valley, Murrieta and
Lake Elsinore Valley Chambers of Commerce helped stop many
proposed laws that would have unreasonably expanded
employer’s costs and liabilities, mandated government
healthcare taxes and new shipping taxes just to name a few.
The chambers were also successful in seeing many supported
positive legislative issues pass and signed into law by the
Governor.

Southwest California Legislative Council Releases
Statement on the Financial Crisis

Greg Morrison, Chair of the Southwest California
Legislative Council releases the following statement on
the financial crisis facing our nation.
The Southwest California Legislative Council, the
business advocacy coalition of the Temecula Valley, Lake
Elsinore Valley and Murrieta Chambers of Commerce, urges
Congress to immediately pass a responsible bipartisan
financial rescue package that aims to stem the current
the financial panic and protect taxpayers.
We believe Congress needs to take action to stabilize
the financial markets. Failure earlier in the week to
approve legislation addressing the financial crisis
leaves uncertainty that may have dramatic affects on the
markets and lowered equity prices, eroding individual
savings and destroying billions of dollars of household
wealth.
Congress needs to support a plan to successfully restore
confidence in the American financial system , and
preserve the flow of credit to the economy for
stability, and include bipartisan program/plan oversight
of not only the Southwest California region, but the
rest of the nation.
The Southwest California Legislative Council urges
Congress to immediately pass responsible financial
rescue legislation, while protecting the American
taxpayer.

Southwest California Businesses Support Restoring Use of
Critical Local Funds

Created by the 1999 Tribal-State Compact, the Indian Gaming
Special Distribution Fund (SDF) is fully financed by 26
tribal governments that operate more than 200 gaming
devices. The SDF provides critical funding for many public
uses, including local governments and special districts
impacted by tribal government gaming, gambling addiction
programs, and reimbursement to State agencies that oversee
gambling controls and regulations. Local governments have
not received money from the SDF in over two years.

TAKE
ACTION NOW!
Oppose A Multi-Billion Dollar Paid Sick Leave
Mandate

AB
2716 is a proposed new law that would unreasonably
expand employer's and local government agencies’ costs
and liability by mandating paid sick leave for all
employees, including, interns, seasonal, part-time,
temporary, and full-time employees.
All employers in California would be mandated to provide
paid sick leave to an employee after only seven days of
work in a calendar year. The proposed new law impacts
all employers, large and small, regardless of the
current level of sick leave already provided.
This proposal, estimated to cost employers billions of
dollars in increased costs, places a massive burden on
our local businesses at a time when our economy is
underperforming and job cuts are continual.
