Local Legislators Support Southwest California Businesses
The 2005 Vote Record: The 16 Bills Tracked by The
Southwest Legislative Council and How State Senator Battin,
State Senator Hollingsworth, Assembly member Benoit, and
Assembly member Haynes Voted
The Southwest California Legislative Council (SWCLC) voted
unanimously in early 2005 to track 16 potential laws (bills)
that might have a significant impact on the Southwest
California business community. The SWCLC is a regional
business advocacy coalition of the Temecula Valley Chamber
of Commerce, Murrieta Chamber of Commerce, and Lake Elsinore
Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Each local legislator, State Senator Battin, State Senator
Hollingsworth, Assembly member Benoit, and Assembly member
Haynes received an official position letter for each of the
16 bills tracked by the SWCLC.
“The Southwest California Legislative Council believes it is
extremely important to communicate our positions on bills
that might impact the Southwest California business
community,” said Gene Wunderlich, the Chairman of the
Southwest California Legislative Council. “Thie vote record
reflects a year of hard work by our members. It is also a
tool that we will use each year to hold our elected
officials accountable to their business community.”
The Southwest California Legislative Council’s official
positions on each of the 16 bills have been available on
this Web site including summaries and explanations of why
the SWCLC opposed and supported each of the 16 bills. The
SWCLC lobbied tirelessly during the 2005 legislative session
for our legislators to OPPOSE 12 bills and SUPPORT 4 bills.
“We believe our work was successful. All of our
representatives voted with the Southwest California
Legislative Council on major issues impacting our business
community,” added Wunderlich. “The Council and our
membership are very appreciative for the pro-jobs votes of
State Senator Battin, State Senator Hollingsworth, Assembly
member Benoit, and Assembly member Haynes.”
Summary of How the
Southwest California Legislators Voted in 2005
To reach the following vote percentages supporting pro-jobs
for each local legislator, the Southwest California
Legislative Council tallied the number of times our
representatives voted in agreement with the SWCLC’s position
and divided that total by the number of chances each of the
four elected officials had to vote on the Assembly or Senate
floor. During the 2005 legislative session, State Senator
Battin voted on 15 bills; 15 bills were proposed for State
Senator Hollingsworth’s vote; Assembly member Benoit voted
on 10 bills; and 10 bills were proposed for Assembly member
Haynes’ vote.
